Plagiarism Policy

Introduction

Dama Academic Scholarly & Scientific Research Society (DASSRS) is committed to upholding the highest standards of academic integrity and ethical publishing practices. Plagiarism, in any form, is strictly prohibited and constitutes a serious violation of publication ethics.

Definition of Plagiarism

Plagiarism is the presentation of another person’s work, ideas, or words as one’s own, without proper acknowledgement. This includes, but is not limited to:

  • Copying text, data, images, or figures without attribution
  • Paraphrasing significant portions of someone else’s work without acknowledgement
  • Failing to cite sources, including one’s own previously published work (self-plagiarism)
  • Submitting the same manuscript to more than one journal simultaneously (duplicate publication)

Policy Statement

All manuscripts submitted to DASSRS journals will undergo plagiarism screening using plagiarism detection tools (e.g., Turnitin, iThenticate, or similar software). Manuscripts found to contain plagiarised content will be subject to immediate rejection.

Acceptable Similarity Index

The acceptable similarity index is generally below 15%, excluding references and properly cited quotations. Any manuscript exceeding this threshold may be returned to the author for revision or rejected outright, depending on the severity and nature of the overlap.

Responsibilities of Authors

Authors are expected to:

  • Ensure that all sources are appropriately cited and acknowledged
  • Submit only original works that have not been published or submitted elsewhere
  • Provide proper citation for reused content, including their own previously published work
  • Obtain permission to reproduce copyrighted material when applicable

Consequences of Plagiarism

If plagiarism is detected before publication:

  • The manuscript will be rejected, and the corresponding author will be notified.
If plagiarism is discovered after publication:
  • The article may be retracted from the journal’s archive.
  • A formal notice of misconduct may be published.
  • The author’s institution and relevant academic bodies may be informed.

Appeals and Review Process

Authors may appeal decisions related to plagiarism by submitting a formal explanation. The Editorial Board will review the appeal, and a final decision will be communicated to the author.

Education and Prevention

DASSRS encourages authors, particularly early-career researchers, to adopt ethical writing and citation practices. Educational resources and guidance will be made available to promote responsible research conduct.

Final Authority

The Editor-in-Chief and Editorial Board of the respective DASSRS journal retain the final authority in all matters related to plagiarism and ethical misconduct.
